Organisation

Tournament format

Currently, with six teams, each team plays each other twice in a home-and-away round-robin format in the league phase. At the conclusion of the league stage, the top three teams will qualify for the playoffs. The team topping the table after the league phase will progress to the final as host. The two teams from the league phase finishing second and third will play against each other in the Play-off match, with the winner advancing to the final. The winner of the MSL Final match will be crowned the Mzansi Super League champions.

Player acquisition

A team can acquire players by means of a player auction. Players sign up for the auction and also set their base price. Protea marquee players were assigned to the six teams first. Thereafter, teams were able to pick an international marquee player. Following this, teams were allocated fourteen picks in the auction. Order of picks varied for each round of picks. Player salaries depends on the number of pick they were chosen in.

Prizes

On 30 October 2018 it was announced that the Mzansi Super League 2018 champions will receive prize money of R 7 million and the runners up will receive R 2.5 million, The player of the tournament will receive R 100 000, and each man of the match will pocket R 15 000.[5]

T20 Global League

The T20 Global League was a planned Twenty20 cricket tournament by Cricket South Africa (CSA) to be held in South Africa from November 2017.[7] In the wake of the departure of CSA's CEO Haroon Lorgat, CSA announced in October 2017 that the tournament would be postponed to November 2018 due to financial considerations, the lack of a broadcast deal and title sponsor.[8][9][10] Thabang Moroe, acting CEO of CSA said that "we have re-assessed our strategy and believe that postponing the first edition of the T20 Global League to next year will serve us well".[11]

The first edition of the tournament was scheduled to feature eight teams, starting on 16 November 2017 with its inaugural final match on 16 December 2017.[12][13][14]
