Sqlalchemy extending query from another function from the same class

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to extend a query from another function within myClass.py module. I have a base query that I return like this:

myClass.py:

...
...
# This will be my base query.
def base_query(self):
my_list = session.query(Object)
.join(Object.top_level_names)
.join(otherObject.bottom_id)
.filter(Object.id == self.id)

return my_list

# Here I want to extend my base query
def extended_qeury(self):
session.query(self.base_query.filter(...)) # Throws error sqlalchemy.exc.InvalidRequestError: SQL expression, column, or mapped entity expected - got '<bound method>'

How would I go about on extending my query in other functions to be able to use in other functions and add on other queries?
