JS: How to detect the existence of any kind of video stream, on a page?

I see that many download managers(like IDM or Stream Recorder) detect automatically a video stream on a page, and prompt some UI that allows you to download them.
I'm wondering how it can be done with JS. I know it's a general question, but i don't see any other way to put it. Any thoughts?
