How maintain state of an item in Recyclerview inside another RecyclerView

0

It is chat screen, implemented using viewmodel arch components. which has two recyclerviews .

parent (Vertical scroll - has multiple viewtypes) and
children - recyclerview(Horizontal scroll),cardview and Textview.

When user selects any item, say one in parent recyclerview and one child recyclerview(Horizontal scroll) I want to maintain the state of what item is selected without compromising user performance(No lagging).

It is like a two dimensional matrix, only one item of child recylerciew can be slected at any time and state has to be maintained if user scroll down/up/left/right
