set variable activity in data factory throws 500 error
This may be related to this issue but the symptoms are different. Set Variable activity Azure Data Factory v2
What I am trying to do is simply increment a counter (CurrentOffset) that will cause the parent "until" activity to repeat until it reaches a value defined in the pipeline parameter (NumberOfDays).
I can see the variable I want to set (this is different to the above reported issue) but when I debug or run, it throws a 500 error with no error or message (see further below).
Here is a stripped down example.

}
}
}
],

"variables": {

Is there a work around for looping on a variable where that variable is updated in a nested activity? Note that I can successfully loop an array because this is defined in the outer activity.
Thanks, Mark.
