Firebase routing for HTML page with dynamic content based on path variable

0

I'm trying to create the following setup:

1) clients perform request like mywebsite.com/:id

2) some static HTML is rendered in response

3) when document finishes loading, Firebase function is called asynchronously. It loads some info from Firestore, using the :id from the URL

4) HTML is updated with info loaded from database

I've tried the following hosting section in firebase.json:

"hosting": {
"ignore": [
"firebase.json",
"**/.*",
"**/node_modules/**"
],
"rewrites": [
{
"source": "**",
"destination": "/public/index.html"
}
],
"public": "public"
}

And included some inline JS into public/index.html file. This JS would then call a Firebase function asynchronously and update HTML.

But if I then try to make request like localhost:5000/test_id Firebase responds with Cannot GET /test_id.

Is there some other better technique for implementing such approach?
